I have lived in Atlanta for nearly my entire life. There have been tornadoes, but never any that hit downtown Atlanta.
Tonight, that all changed. The Big 10 basketball conference is in full swing here, and we have thousands of out of town guests here for that.
Tonight, tornadoes hit downtown, and ripped up high rise hotels, rooftops on huge buildings, took part of the roof off the Ga. Dome, the Omni Hotel, shattered windows in the Westin Hotel, the highest hotel in Atlanta, scattered furniture all about, toppled high rise condos, ripped up trees, blew out windows in hundreds of cars, and knocked out power throughtout the downtown area.
There are no reported deaths, but multitudes of injuries from falling glass.
The news on TV is changing by the minute, and round two of the storm is scheduled to hit, within the hour.
And, you just thought, that things were interesting, where you are.

It is the SEC Tournament. I see where they are going to have to move it. Glad no more hurt than what there was could have been much worse. More storms predicted. Hope everyone stays safe

Yes, it is a mess. The tournament is to be at Georgia Tech Coliseum for the remaining games beginning with Georgia vs Kentucky @ 12:00 noon today. :)

The news is saying that there are 2 dead. Also, Atlanta is under a tornado warning right now. It's not over yet.

Yes...we did get hit again yesterday afternoon, with more tornados and violent weather. They say the damage is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. It will be days, before all electricity is restored.
Personally, I was pretty much spared, with the exception of a hail storm at about 4PM yesterday. My beautiful new Ford F150 truck, was pummeled, with golf ball size hail, for about 30 minutes, nonstop.
CaptKen...you will be proud to know, that Ford truck owners can be proud.
My truck took a beating, and came out without so much as a mark on it.
We never lost electricity here, but the wind, lightning, and hail, were all pretty scary. We have tree branches down here, but that doesn't compare to all the trees that are down, everywhere else.
I consider myself lucky, but, this was a weekend that I will never forget.
Whoever it was, that said, that March in Ga, comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb, may have been on to something. I guess we will find out, over the next two weeks.
Today was a perfectly beautiful, spring like day. All the bikers were out, people were out in the parks, and everyone was out and about, in general.
It has always been said, that if you don't like the weather in Ga, just wait until tomorrow.

"pummeled"
Now there's a word you don't hear everyday. I think it should be our word of the day, Midwest! What do you think?
Impressive, Doug! Glad y'all are ok.

the news here today reported that one unidentified man was found dead under a pile of bricks being removed from a church that was hit by the tornado close to downtown Atlanta. only one death, what a miracle.
