View Full Version : Favorite Schooners Item EVER!

Hey since Schooners has been around so long (and the Beach Party before that) I was just wondering what everyones favorite menu item, Cocktail, or even Memory was?
Other than my parents having a first date at the Beach Party in the early 70's I'd have to say that the Sunday afternoon margaritas have to top my list.

well I haven't been lucky to try many items since I've only been once so far (this past summer was my first time there!) but the Key Lime Pie was the best I've had anywhere!

Welllll....a few years back, Schooners had an appetizer that was baked clams served on a plate with a well for each of the six clams topped with a multi-cheese top and slid under the broiler. That and a chilled glass of Chardonnay....
It was YUMMY....wish it would return

Clams...maybe it was oysters...anyway, anybody know :?:

I think it was Oysters. The plate I'm thinking about hab six mini "bowls" with a couple of different kind of cheeses melted on top. That was GOOD!

MrSandman...you are exactly right....Yummmm, Yummmm
Why don't they have them again.....anyone :?: :?:

dealer, you're keeping me busy with these questions
They were in fact oysters, covered with spices and tons of cheese. Though many liked (or loved ) them, Schooners had lots of complaints, oysters too small, too much cheese, whatever! Every so often the kitchen manager and the owners go over the menu sales printout and usually remove any items that are not selling well and replace them with something new. Personally I think the baked oysters @ Hunt's in St. Andrew can't be beat, well worth the drive and the wait to get some !!! mmmmmmmm

My favorite memory is staying at the Sun Glo with my mom and us walking down the beach or Surf Dr. to Schooners for beers and a grouper sandwich.

Does anyone remember the key lime pie candies they had in a bowl on the way into the bathroom? It's been like 5 or 6 years ago, but those things were freakin' awesome. I used to fill my pockets with them on the way out...Probably one of the reasons why they quit putting them there. Somebody's always got to spoil it.

Thanks so much for the heads up about Hunt's....where are they :?: Near Uncle Ernies :?:

dealer, yes, they are a stones throw from Uncle Ernies. As a matter of fact . . . . just last night I took tntsweet and her husband to Uncle Ernies. She may not remember, but she had a GREAT time ! I was going to take them into Hunt's for a dozen baked, neither of them have ever had baked oysters, but the line was long for several hours. We headed back to the beach & Margaritaville. Hunt's is on Beck Avenue, right across from the new Shrimp Boat Restaurant (and Tan Fannies!) It's a good thing I didn't point out Tan Fannies to tnt and my friend Kim, on a dare we may have ended up in there

Schooner's Bushwhackers and Crab Claws..... awesome awesome awesome. I have way too many great memories of fabulous times at Schooner's. My best friend got married there 15 or 16 years ago, bachelorette parties, dancing, singing....can't come to PCB without a trip to Schooner's.

Hey tnt ! Tan Fannie's is one of those Eeeewwwww tiddy bars. Low rent I believe, I've never set foot inside, but the joke is when we park in front and cross over to Hunt's that passing friends may recognize our vehicle and think we are in there. I've heard some of the girls actually have teeth . . . . . As I said . . . . MAYBE ON A DARE we would venture inside one night . . . . . I'd have to be quite drunk though

Hey Mr. SandMan,
My favorite menu item(s) is the red beans and rice that have been served at cajun fest fest for the last 2 years. I am looking forward to it again this year. I also like the 'bananas foster" cooked table side.
As far as the regular menu goes.......The crab cakes are the second best compared to the nightly speciality items. Some of those nightly "special" creations are the way to go!
by the way...why is your name in green?? ;)

Yep, I'd have to agree with sarah about the red beans and rice.........we'll be serving those up today, as a matter of fact. A little Cajunfest preview. Who knows the reason that red beans and rice are traditionally served on Mondays? Also, Bananas Foster is on tap for Cajunfest again this year, hope to see you out here.

Red Beans today were awesome! I've heard that back-in-the-day Monday was wash day, so you could put a pot on and let em go. I could be way off that may have been a limas or a six penny soup.

Hello Mr SandMan...first time talking to you....I believe you are right about Monday's being wash day and putting on a "pot". I am sure about the wash day and the "pot" sounds right too. Anyone out there that can confirm that????
CHEF J
02-16-2009, 10:24 PM
Yep, thats the story, at least that's what I was always led to beleive. Monday was washday, so you put on a one pot dish and let em simmer all day. Kudos on the culinary history trivia.

Far and away the broiled seafood platter! Sadly, it is gone and you can only get the fried. Loved the oysters also. Sounds like everything I enjoy is going away.

My most favorite Schooner's food, my most favorite food ever as a matter of fact, is the shrimp and corn chowder. We just got home from PCB, and I brought 4 orders home with me in the cooler. I just got done eating the last bowl, which I was supposed to have saved for my best friend because she loves it too and didn't get to go this trip, but I couldn't help myself. It was the last one, and it is so good. I will crave it till I am back on the beach again. I hope it is soon!

Bringing this one back - my fav at Schooners is anything(food) that is fresh and an ice cold bud light. I am particularly fond of the grouper sandwich but will try anything on the menu that doesn't involve oysters. I love all kinds of seafood except for oysters.
I would love to see Schooners have a "she crap" soup as a regular on the menu. A good she crab soup is hard to find. She crap soup and a crusty bread to dip in it - ummmmmm

Sigh...only one thing? But I love so much there...Since I have to choose just one, Ill pick the one that I get really upset over when they run out, which would be the chicken and cheese tamales. Theyre soooo addictive
