Ohhhhhh.... a cold watermelon in the heat of summer? How could you hate that? Watermelon juice dripping down your arm and plopping in the sand - smell of suntan lotion and salty breeze... it's the taste and sensation of my days growing up on the beach.

I guess some folks won't like it, but us locals will slurp it up ... can't wait to get back to PC and try one!

LOL...I've been told I'm not a true Southerner for not liking watermelon...same thing said bout me not liking grits and other stuff..(although I was born and raised in Bama)...but I've just never liked the taste of it. Give me a good cantelope any day(my weakness!), but I'm gonna stay away from the watermelon..lol

Ha! Well... I have to admit that one reason I like the watermelon better than the cantelope is... ok, forgive me... but you can spit a watermelon seed a LOT further than a measly little cantelope seed! (smile)

LOL...that's funny Toni....I hear that's also a true Southern thing, but I gotta admit, I've never tried seed spitting...lol. Of course I don't eat the watermelon at all, but even when I eat cantelope, I scoop all the seeds out ahead of time...lol.

I wish I had some watermelon right now. I can't believe I haven't had one yet this summer. I can spit a seed with the best of them.

I don't have to pay for mine. I live out in the country and several neighbors have watermelon fields. I just have to go get them.

I just ate some watermelon! Love it. I was raised on eating it with salt, but I have been trying not to put salt on it.

I remember, years ago, my Uncle use to live in Lake City, FL on a private lake. His house was up on stilts, and we traveled down a long sandy lane under spanish moss to get to his house. He use to have a cement slab, and a cement picnic table and they would cut off a hunks of watermelon and give us kids each one. Yes, we had juices running down the arm, down the chin, we would spit the seeds and then they would come over and hose us and the picnic table off. Oh, the memories!!

If you want to be adventurous, you can try Watermelon the "Mexican" way. I learned this in Tiajuana, MX. Cube up a bowl of watermellon, squeeze lemon juice on it (I like LOTS on mine),sprinkle lightly with salt and Cayenne Pepper, mix gently. This is also good with cantaloupe, honeydew or pineapple....my favorite is to mix them all together and have a fruit salad.

Schooner's is currently selling watermellons spiked with several tasty liquors. MrSandMan filled me in on this last week. I think he said its was $25 ..but he rattled off several different liquors that are in the melon. I don't think Tom could even handle eating too much off the stuff. It sounded pretty intense.

I took my watermelon down to PCB with every intention of spiking it...just ended up slicing it, putting it in the cooler and eating it with salt on the beach. I had a chilled melon soup one time on a cruise that was pretty awesome but I don't think there was any alcohol in it...sure would have been a whole lot better if there was!
