Ok, I have been out of work since 12/1/08. I have sent resumes, one right after another. I have followed up, but I think I have had one or two interviews in all this time. The economy here stinks, plus the are 10,000 people looking for the same job I am.

Ok, as some of you might know from my facebook, that I twisted my foot on Halloween (before happy hour ) and I heard something pop. Ended up going to Urgent Care on Sunday morning and having it x-rayed. I have a "slight fracture" and I have popped a ligament off that bone. OUCH!

Well today I was job searching on the internet and a job posting shows up that is right up my alley so I send a resume online with a cover letter. I thought, well if I ever get the call it will be in a week or so, because nobody has been in a real hurry. Usually there is a short phone interview then they call you back and set up an appt if you get that far.

The resume I sent in today online, I just got a call and they want an interview me next Wednesday! I said yes, of course, and I am praying that I can walk in there without a cane, without a "post op" boot on and that I can wear a shoe, let alone a dress shoe.

UUUUUGGGGGHHHHH! This has not been my year!!!!

Any suggestions on how I explain my foot accident and have them still consider me for the position??? Hopefully I will be able to walk somewhat normal by then!

I'll keep my fingers crossed that your foot is well enough for you to be able to walk normally. The truth is great but it would be even better if you didn't have to explain anything at all.

You could say, "well, what happens in Vegas... hardy har har!" Then say, "No, I just twisted it, and it will be fine." Then just leave it at that. They aren't going to ask anything personal anyway. If the job requires a lot of walking or standing you just want to make sure that they know that you are the one they want. I would take the chance with somebody who was going to get the job done and be dependable after they healed in a couple weeks over someone who would have their lazy *** slogging around right away. Just make sure they know the difference and don't be just another person walking (er... um... limping )through their door. Good luck Deb, and go get em!

Hey Deb, by law they can't ask you anything personal but to be on the safe side it would be best to tell them you tripped or something like that. You don't want them to think you're some sort of wild woman that went on a bender and fell over the bar. The fact you're going for an interview with a bum foot will show them you're a strong candidate and the right one for the job. Just tell them it will be fine in a few days. Then in the mean time study up on possible interview questions and your answers. Put a confident smile on your face and show them you're the one. Then what some people forget is to ask for the job in the end and follow up with a firm (not strong) hand shake. Good luck.
