Does anybody know if they are anticipating travel problems on the interstates near Memphis? I'll need to get from I-55 onto I-22. The river isn't suppose to crest till the middle of next week. I hope to avoid traveling through Illinois.

I have a friend that lives in Memphis. I sent her a message on f/b. I will let you know what I find out.

Per my friend in Memphis:
"If your talking about I-22 (Georgia)? He shouldn't have any problems. To
my knowledge,
55 is not experiencing any problems. Tell him to stay away from I-40. The farther he gets
away from the river the better he be."
Does that help?

I'm pretty sure she's talking about the same thing. I'll be coming down I-55 from Missouri into Arkansas and across the bridge into Memphis. Hop on I-240 and then onto Lamar Ave which turns into I-22 heading toward Birmingham. Thanks Deb!
I 40 has been closed for the last couple days about 30 miles west of Memphis near Brinkley. Not sure if it's back open yetand not sure if that is close to 55. West Memphis has had some pretty heavy flooding. My son lives on Mud Island and he says they expect water to be over a section of the road leading onto the island by Sunday. None of that affects I40 travel thru Memphis but can't say about 240 because Wolf River is very high and alot of roads are closed now but not the interstates. I've been listening to either WREG.com or MYFOXMEMPHIS.com for updates. We go back down on Tuesday for Will's pharmacy induction and help him pack up for the summer.
Thanks Patricia. I did see that about I-40 and the White river near Brinkley. But they were also talking about 40 as though it was right near Memphis also, so I thought there might be other problems. Brinkley appears to be no closer to Memphis than it is to Little Rock. 40 does merge with 55 for a few miles just outside of Memphis on the Ark side, but I'm guessing that should be clear where they run together. I'll check out those websites during the week.
I know, I was just there and no sooner get back to Mid TN and the local news here makes it sound like the whole city is under water. Granted, there are areas that the water is taking over the roadways and people do have water in there homes but it is not the whole city. It's areas where the creeks and other rivers that normally flow into the river and can't which is causing all the flooding. And of course the Mississippi is really high but as long as it doesn't cover the road to Mud Island, those folks will be fine. The people over on the lagoon side are the ones that their homes may get flooded. And if you've ever driven thru that area you'll remember that I40 is built up above most of the city so you really won't have any problems.
I don't know where you will be picking up your highway after you get on 240 but if you are going near Tunica you may want to check for road closures that way if there are other creeks and rivers feeding Mississippi there. They have closed all the casinos and hotels there due to high water.
Have a safe trip and let us know how travel was. Wish I was going to be down then but I will be back in the fall
Patricia
