I was 12 years old but can't remember what the hell I was doing. Probably out running around the neighborhood. We were living in Jacksonville Fl at the time. I do remember the next day my mom running out and buying up a bunch of his albums. She was quite an Elvis Freak!!!

Dude, you have no idea of the true definition of an a true Elvis freak. If she was a true freak, there's a pretty good chance that she knew my mom back then. I went to 6 concerts...and I was 6 when he died. I sat on the Graceland property in the guard house when Elvis was on the property. My mom knew the entire Memphis Mafia very well. We'd just hang out in the guard house. Those crazy women were just hoping and praying that he'd do a drive by. That same year in early 1977, we were doing a walk through of Elvis' jet, The Lisa Marie. My brother and I went AWOL. We got busted sitting in the cockpit. lmao I have tons of stuff to auction off one day if my Mom doesn't sell it herself. She has several autographed scarves, Elvis' racketball glove, framed in and suspended in an air tight frame, A cigar she took from his jet, some carpet that was removed from Graceland..and some goggles my mom took from the pool at Graceland when it was drained. Oh what a childhood I had.
Stay Thirsty....
Your mom has mine beat by a mile.........she had 5 kids and dad would not let go to that extreme!! She bought 8 track tapes and I was the only one with a player. I played my KISS Destroyer tape in it. LOL!! She did take my brother and I to his concert in Jacksonville Fl. right before he died. It was in May or June of 1977 at the Jacksonville Coliseum. That was the only concert of his I went to. I didn't see much either. There were too many screaming women and I was a little shorter than I am now!!

Ahh..the 8 tracks! The first non-Elvis 8 track that I owned was AC/DC's Dirty Deeds. Then it was Kiss' Love Gun. I still loved my Elvis tunes...but discovering the obnoxiously, over driven guitar tones changed my young life. Then in 1978 I discovered a guy named Eddie Van Halen. I soon claimed the old electric guitar that was in my dad's closet. When the 80's rolled around.. my mom didn't like the sounds that was blaring from my bedroom. Those were the days...
My first album was KISS Destroyer. Van Halen has been my all time favorite band before Sammy joined them. I have been to over 15 of their concerts. When they would have 2 concerts in ATL I would go to both of them. The last time I saw them was back in 2008 with DLR back with them and Wolfgang on the bass. Great concert! Eddie and Alex still have what it takes. I wasn't able to go this year because of the lack of funds..............................and yes, I still have the jersey concert shirts I bought at the concerts. LOL!! I also listen to a lot of Metallica. I do prefer their older stuff though. I went to their concert back in 2004 at Gwinnett Place Arena. We sat next a couple kids who were about 13 years old. When they started playing Master of Puppets, the 2 kids looked at each other and said "I've never heard that song before". I started laughing and got to thinking.....damn I feel old!!!

Hi Lil Deb. I'm with you & gagirl. I really liked Elvis' movies, but didn't care for his music. My brother is 5 years older than me and he was a huge Elvis fan.
